The Beginning

In 1994, Excalibur Drilling was founded in Brooks, Alberta. Our founders vision was to create a drilling company that offered top tier capabilities associated with big companies while having the personal connection and simplicity associated with a small company.  The same year we opened our Contracts Office in Calgary to be closer to our core customers. 

We designed, fabricated and assembled Rig One at our Brooks facilities and spudded our first well on February 6, 1995. We quickly followed with Rig Two the same year. 


Today we operate eight high performance Top Drive and Kelly drive telescopic double drilling rigs in Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan. Our third Top Drive Rig is set to be ready to drill in the summer of 2017.

Our culture and high employee retention have been instrumental in developing a highly experienced and motivated team. Today Senior Managers, Rig Managers, Drillers and Derrick Hands have been with the company for an average of over 11.5 years.  In fact, our first rig manager is still with us today as the General Manager of Operations.
